Portland Works Studio

Portland Works Studio is the photographic studio base of commercial photographer Carl Whitham.

Carl originally trained as a forensic photographer, then moved on to work for the Royal Photographic Society in Bath where he also set up his own studio in 1996. He has built up a reputation as a highly adaptable studio and location photographer producing dynamic imagery for commercial, advertising and editorial purposes.

Much of the work focuses on the industrial sector where Carl’s experience and technical ability allows him to produce creative, inspiring images in very challenging environments ranging from Sheffield steel foundries to UK wide manufacturing and European technical centres.

Since a lot of Carl’s work takes place on location, his studio is often available for hire, providing a unique and flexible workspace for photography and photographic workshops. The studio space has been sympathetically refurbished to show the original Victorian architecture with north and south-facing windows providing amazing amounts of natural light when required. It is equipped with blackout blinds, loading bay, fully fitted kitchen, dressing room and a huge quantity of modern photographic studio equipment.
