Heritage Lecture: A Walk Through Victorian Sheffield 1880-1900

27 February @ 19:00 - 21:00

£5

The first Heritage Lecture of our brand new series at Portland Works is to be presented by Peter Machan. Peter is an historian and expert on Victorian Sheffield. He will take us on a “virtual walk” around the city at the very time the building of the Portland Works cutlery factory was completed in 1879.

“During the second half of the nineteenth century, and especially in the final 20 years, local photographers documented Sheffield events and its phenomenal development. In this talk we recreate a walk through the town as our great grandparents might have experienced it though a remarkable series of unique photographs. This is particularly poignant at this time when so much of the city center is again undergoing transformation.”

Once again, ticket numbers are limited, so please book well in advance.
