Portland Works Studio is the photographic studio base of commercial photographer Carl Whitham. Born and raised less than a mile from Portland Works, Carl originally trained as a forensic photographer, moved on to work with the Royal Photographic Society and subsequently set up his own studio in 1996. He has subsequently built up a reputation as a highly adaptable studio and location photographer for commercial, advertising and editorial channels.
Much of his work focuses on the industrial sector where Carl’s experience and technical ability allows him to produce creative, inspiring images in very challenging environments ranging from Sheffield steel foundries to UK manufacturing locations and European technical centres.
Since a lot of Carl’s work takes place on location, his studio is often available for hire, providing a unique and flexible workspace for photography, teaching or exhibitions. Sympathetically refurbished to show the original Victorian architecture, this clean, modernised space measures 15m x 5.5m and has walls of north & south-facing windows providing amazing amounts of natural light when required. It is equipped with blackout blinds, loading bay, fully fitted kitchen, dressing room and a huge quantity of modern photographic studio equipment. Lighting and grip gear, along with video projection, tables and seating are all available as required.
