A selection of artists and makers from across the United Kingdom come together with a variety of cutlery, vintage finds and handcrafted products, along with live music and a café. Browse and buy cutlery and more. Stalls available - download form for more information and to book a stall.
Open days give you the opportunity to look around the building, meet some of our tenants and volunteers and hear about the work that they do over refreshments.
NEXT OPEN DAY 14th September 11-3pm and part of the National Heritage Open Days weekend
Book your tour of the Works by emailing email@example.com with your preferred time and number in your group if more than yourself. Tours start every half hour from 11am until 2.30pm, booking is worth doing to avoid a wait on the day.
Last Open day was 23 March - 'Celebrating One Year of Community Ownership' - a great success, so nice to see 150 visitors who enjoyed tours, displays, talks and goodies.
Please wear sensible shoes and warm clothes when visiting the Works!
...AS A PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL
Please come along to one of our Open Days or another event taking place in the Works.
…AS A GROUP
We can organise tours of the building for groups, which can also include meeting some of the makers. We ask for a donation - of £3 per head – as a gesture of support for the project.
…FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES
The Works can provide a great backdrop for photography, and could be a venue for other commercial activities. Our basic rate is £40 per half day for access to the courtyard and other ‘public’ areas of the Works (i.e. not those occupied by private business).
…FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES
We have had some brilliant partnership work with both of Sheffield’s universities. The Works offer great opportunities for architects, planners, historians, journalists and potentially others. We aim to make all projects rewarding both for students and for Portland Works.
Please note that in its current state the Works is unsuitable for school visits. As we carry out the renovations we hope to make some of the facilities accessible for children.
…TO ORGANISE AN EVENT
We have had some spectacular cultural events at the Works (including Pecha Kucha and Sensoria, amongst others - see below) The Works is an unusual venue and we'd love to help you put on en event here. Facilities are improving all the time - proper toilets, warmer and dryer spaces, and still the unique atmosphere. Do get in touch and see what we can offer.
