My apprenticeship in the Sheffield cutlery industry was very traditional. I started at the bottom, as all apprentices did, and worked all of the hours that God, or in this case my father, sent! I did this for year after year without complaint until eventually even my father (always a hard task master) took his own pride in the knives that I built.
Although my workshop, and indeed work ethic, is still steeped in the traditions of Sheffield of old, things have, thankfully, changed. The cutlers skills I offer have taken a hundred years to perfect and it has never been easier for you to reap the rewards of the hard earned experiences of both myself and the generations before me.
Many people know me very well; some not at all. That being the case, allow me to advise whomsoever that might wish to order from this Web site, that I, Stuart Mitchell, am the sole employee of my Company and that any and all work undertaken will be accomplished by my hands alone. Furthermore, I guarantee that any buyer will be entirely satisfied with any purchase. No matter what!
Hand made, custom knives can be built in any shape or size to your exact specifications. Naturally, I can advise on technicalities, but together, I'm sure that we can produce the knife that you have always longed for.
Being a knife maker it also follows that I am not an author or a writer of any great note. Perhaps, therefore, you will forgive any errors, (grammatical or otherwise) in this introduction. Compared to composing something such as this, knife making is one of life's more simple tasks.
Stuart Mitchell (Stuart Mitchell Knives) took the business over from his Dad, also called Stuart, in 1996 who was there since 1980, previously he was in Stag Works just behind us. He's an internationally recognised craftsman, making bespoke knives for individuals and the world's leading gunmakers.
. Stuart hand crafted the millennium sword which was commissioned by the Master Cutler and is currently on display in the Cutlers Hall.
