Kevin Wilebore runs his business, Wilebore Handmade Leather Goods, from one of the newly converted workspaces at Portland Works, where he is one of more than 30 traditional and modern craftspeople and makers who work here.
He comes from Stockton on Tees and moved to Sheffield in 1999, where he worked as mechanic and MOT tester. It was his passion for scooters that led him to start the business. When he needed a leather seat cover for a Lambretta he was restoring, he decided to make it himself.
Kevin has always been interested in traditional crafts and as people started asking him to make leather items for them, what began as a hobby turned into a successful business and Wilebore Handmade Leather Goods was born.
Kevin moved to the Works in 2019, where he produces a wide range of beautiful handmade leather goods including bags, wallets, belts, sheaths and even shotgun slips; all individual pieces made to order.
In February 2021 Kevin joined the board at Portland Works as one of its two tenant directors, providing valuable feedback and insight into life at Portland Works and ensuring tenants are represented and well supported.
