Portland Works held its first ever Makers Market recently with a couple of hundred people braving the December weather to attend.
Thanks to our volunteers’ hard work the previous weekend, festive decorations adorned the Maker Space where the stall holder were to showcase their wares. A good number of stall holders signed up for the event including tenants and other local makers.
Even on a wet Friday before Christmas, more than 200 visitors came to the event resulting in an exciting and bustling feel to the entire afternoon. Many of these visitors had never been inside the Works before and there was a great deal of interest in the building and in future events. The nearby Harland Works had a similar event on the same day and it was great to see many of their stall holders come across after it finished.
The entry donations, tombola, refreshments and donations from stall holders sales have so far amounted to £601.17, with an additional £150 raised by the Friends of Portland Works.
We shall definitely be repeating the event next year so make a date in your diary:
